House Rent Allowance: How much HRA can be claimed without proof

You can claim HRA without presenting rent receipts if your monthly rent was Rs. 3,000 or less, according to I-T regulations. However, this does not mean that any monthly rent that has been paid beyond this limit cannot be claimed for tax purposes.

You will need documents such as rental agreements, rent receipts, and the landlord’s PAN (if the rent exceeds Rs. 1,00,000 per year), for claiming tax relief on rental amounts exceeding Rs 8,000/month.
