Ever wondered who pays for free airport lounges? Ex-banker has the answer

From PIN to DIGIPIN: Govt launches tools for accurate address mapping

Many credit cardholders make use of airport lounge access for free as offered by their card. Data analyst Suraj Kumar Talreja, who is currently employed with V Square Systems in Pune after formerly working at Standard Chartered Bank, shared his opinions on who pays for free admission to airport lounges. It turns out that the lounge access provider is still making a respectable profit even when consumers aren’t paying.

According to Talreja, an airport lounge is nothing more than a private space inside the airport where travelers can relax, eat, work, or sleep before their flight.

Talreja says that most people who enter lounges in India today don’t actually pay anything out of pocket. “You swipe your credit or debit card, and walk in. It feels free. But behind the scenes someone is paying. And it’s not the lounge, or you. So, who’s covering the cost?”
