According to recently revised rules, OCI cardholders who have been convicted and sentenced to a minimum of two years in prison will be subject to cancellation of their OCI card. Earlier, if an OCI cardholder had been sentenced to imprisonment for a term of atleast 2 years, within 5 years of their registration as an overseas citizen of India, their OCI card could be revoked.
Also, an individual’s OCI status can be cancelled if they are named in the charge sheet of any crime or offence that has a penalty of 7 or more years of imprisonment.
In addition to this, if any OCI cardholder is found to have obtained their OCI card via ?fraud, false representation or concealment of material facts, their OCI card could be cancelled.
