As per the IRCTC statement, the rule change applies only to online bookings of reserved general tickets. There will be no change in booking timings of general reserved tickets through computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters of Indian Railways.

The Indian Railways had earlier said that from July 1, 2025, only Aadhaar authenticated users can book Tatkal tickets on the IRCTC website and mobile app. Indian Railways also said that from July 15, 2025 onwards, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will be mandatory for online Tatkal ticket bookings.

Starting July 15, 2025, all Tatkal tickets booked at computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and through authorised railway agents are required an extra layer of verification through OTP (One-Time Password) authentication. The OTP in this case is sent to the mobile number provided by the user at the time of booking a ticket.
