From PIN to DIGIPIN: Govt launches tools for accurate address mapping

Positive Pay System (PPS) is a fraud prevention mechanism to counter cheque tampering or alteration. It involves the drawer reconfirming key cheque details, which are then verified during payment processing.

As per directives from the Reserve Bank of India, the SBI has implemented the Positive Pay System (PPS) for all cheque payment modes—cash, transfer, and clearing—effective from 01.01.2021.

The primary aim of PPS is to enhance the security of cheque transactions. By validating cheque details before processing, the system helps reduce fraudulent activity and ensures that only verified cheques are cleared.
