Big hit to depositors: HDFC Bank reduces FD and savings account rates

After ICICI Bank’s move, HDFC Bank has reduced interest rates on select fixed deposit (FD) tenures by up to 25 basis points (bps), applicable to deposits less than Rs 3 crore. The revised rates come into effect from June 10, 2025. This decision follows the Reserve Bank of India’s recent repo rate cut of 50 basis points from 6% to 5.5% which is expected to affect both FD investors and borrowers across the board.

After the FD rate cut, the bank offered FD interest rates between 2.75% and 6.60% for general citizens and 3.25% and 7.10% for senior citizens. Earlier, the bank offered FD interest rates between 3% and 6.85% for general citizens and 3.5% to 7.35% for senior citizens.

Other banks that have revised FD rates are Canara Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank.

HDFC Bank revises savings account interest rates from June 10, 2025

HDFC Bank has revised its savings account interest rates effective June 10, 2025. The bank has reduced the rate by 50 basis points on balances of Rs 50 lakh and above, from 3.25% to 2.75% per annum. Now, all savings account balances, regardless of amount, will earn a uniform interest rate of 2.75% per annum.
Earlier, balances below Rs 50 lakh earned 2.75% interest, while balances of Rs 50 lakh and above earned an interest rate of 3.25%.
